Easy to Use - J Schatz Hummingbird Feeders ship ready to hang and are easy to maintain. Fill the feeder by turning the feeder upside down and removing the rubber stopper. Mix 1 1/2 cups of nectar by dissolving 1 part ordinary white cane sugar in 4 parts tap water. This mixture approximates the average sucrose content (about 21%) of the flowers favored by North American hummingbirds, without being so sweet it attracts too many insects. Pour the mixture into the hummingbird feeder fill hole until completely full in order to form the necessary vacuum to ensure proper flow. Secure the stopper. To ensure that there is no trapped air inside the feeder it is beneficial to have spillage from the fill hole when putting the stopper into hole. When secure, turn over and hang.
Hummingbird Friendly - Hummingbirds are curious creatures that are attracted to boldly colored (not just red!) objects. J Schatz Hummingbird Feeders are designed with bold colors with complementary colored stamens to attract hummingbirds and those that love them.
Selecting a Color - If you feed hummingbird feeders already please select any color you prefer as hummingbirds remember previous feeding locations and will explore objects in their immediate environment. If this is your first feeder we recommend selecting the Red Hot Hummingbird Feeder as it will be noticed more readily than the other colors in the collection.
Beautiful & Durable - The finely finished glossy stoneware J Schatz Hummingbird Feeder weathers beautifully and is perfect for outdoor use. It's vinyl coated hanging wire is rust resistant.
Care - Wipe clean stoneware surfaces with a damp cloth. We recommend cleaning your feeder with hot water every filling. To clean place the hot water inside the feeder through the fill hole and secure with the rubber stopper. Place one finger on the feeder hole and shake vigorously. Rinse thoroughly with hot water before refilling with food. Do not use soap because hummingbirds don not like the taste. Once a month we recommend cleaning the feeder with a 10% bleach to water solution. Allow the solution to set in the feeder for one hour, drain the solution, and then rinse thoroughly with hot water before refilling. There is no need to air dry before refilling, any remaining traces of bleach will be neutralized by the fresh nectar. Bleach is both safe and very effective.
Gravity Fed Feeders - Gravity fed hummingbird feeders may occasionally drip due to changes in the atmospheric pressure. To reduce dripping we recommend always filling the feeder completely with cool nectar before hanging. The cooler the feeder, the less likely it is to drip.
Hand Made - J Schatz Hummingbird Feeders are handmade exclusively by J Schatz in New York.
